Submarine landslide tsunami hazard assessment for the western Makran based on a deterministic approach

چکیده
The Makran region, which borders southern Iran and Pakistan along the Gulf of Oman, has experienced multiple tsunamis in last century, with some being triggered by submarine landslides. However, role played landslides been largely neglected tsunami hazard assessments western Makran. In present study, four different landslide scenarios volumes 10–40 km3 are simulated on 25 locations Makran, resulting 100 hypothetical scenarios. results indicate that Oman’s coastline, a country part subduction zone, is more vulnerable to landslide-generated waves (maximum average 3.1 m wave height) compared 0.9 height). Although Chabahar, Iran, Muscat, two major cities severe during scenarios, it can be implied Muscat this kind due significant gap between maximum height for all We further discuss applying worst-case sometimes lead an overestimation assessment. Therefore, geological, sedimentological, geotechnical considerations studies required defining

[1] The present geological setting west of Svalbard closely parallels the situation off mid-Norway after the last glaciation, when crustal unloading by melting of ice induced very large earthquakes. Today, on the modern Svalbard margin, increasing bottom water temperatures are destabilizing marine gas hydrates, which are held in continental margin sediments consisting of interlayered contourite...

Tsunami waves are the most underrated hazard affecting the life near coastal belts. With socio-economic developments in coastal region results in more hazardous from tsunami. The hazard assessment of tsunami is highly vital. The Makran region is exceptional in closure zone of Tethys; it is only segment east of the Mediterranean and west of Andaman arc in which subduction of oceanic lithosphere ...
متن کاملThe Design of a Sensor Network Based on Iot Technology for Landslide Hazard Assessment
In the present paper, the authors deal with the landslide issue and the associated risk management. The design of a sensor network for monitoring landslide triggering events is proposed. The network consists of websensors using IoT technology to share measurement results and information. Data are acquired and processed to characterize the occurrence of triggering events causing landslides. The ...
متن کاملAsteroid Impact Tsunami: A Probabilistic Hazard Assessment
We investigate the generation, propagation, and probabilistic hazard of tsunami spawned by oceanic asteroid impacts. The process first links the depth and diameter of parabolic impact cavities to asteroid density, radius, and impact velocity by means of elementary energy arguments and crater scaling rules. Then, linear tsunami theory illustrates how these transient cavities evolve into vertical...
